The birth of Ainsley Dalberg was the end result of a summer fling between her father, Andrew Thompson, and her mother, Maria Dalberg. In an attempt to appease Maria's moderately old-fashioned parents, Andrew temporarily relocated to Stockholm to take on his parenting responsibilities. Much to the dismay of her grandparents, Andrew and Maria's relationship dissipated a few years after she was born, with her father inevitabtly moving back to London. He still remained an active participant in her upbringing, however, and Lee split her years between England and Sweden.

In spite of her slightly unconventional childhood, there was nothing particularly remarkable about her upbringing - no indication that she was 'born for success' or any other cliched epxression. She was a home schooled child, and her parents both did their best to love and nurture her interests while providing opportunities for her to flourish.

Eventually, Lee would go on to attend Stockholm University, though the pursuit of higher education was more to appease her parents than herself. To say that she neglected to take it seriously would have been a dramatic understatement - instead, she found the nightlife to be more her scene. The music was raw and the drugs were in abundant supply. She dropped out after her first year, and decided to make the move overseas to America, settling down on the couch of an Internet pen-pal in New York.

While the music scene in Sweden was undeniably attractive, she was eager to gain a fresh perspective on the industry. Initially, Lee worked to help local indie musicans craft songs, preferring a behind the scenes approach involvement as opposed to being in the spotlight herself. Eventually through some serious hustle and clever networking, she was given the opportunity to pen tracks for musicians of a higher profile than herself. The steady royalty income was enough for her to finally get a crammed apartment of her own for the first time, something she still considers to be her crowing lifetime achievement.

While Lee was certainly content in writing for other musicians, she recognized that it wasn't giving her a lot of opportunity for creative growth. She quietly released her first track "Love Ballad" in 2012 to very little fanfare, and it wasn't until uploading "Habits" to her Soundcloud in 2013 that anyone took notice of her. With a major wave of support from Neon Gold blog write-ups and appearances at their monthly Popshop events, Lee was able to write and workshop songs as she wrote them for her debut album.

In 2014, Queen of the Clouds was finally born, though the path to success since then has not been straight forward. After touring as the support act on the third leg of the Prismatic World Tour, Lee was forced to cancel several months worth of shows due to cysts that had formed on her vocal chords. While it certainly put a damper on the promotional whirlwind of a debut album release, she's eager to get back on the road in the spring and show the world that she has the resilience that's necessary to become a household name.
